Delaware County was officially formed in 1827 and named for the Delaware Tribe. The original county seat Munseetown was renamed Muncie in 1845 and incorporated in 1865. In the 1880s, the Ball family established Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company and Ball Brothers Foundation, which spearheaded the construction of Ball Memorial Hospital, completed in 1929. The Ball family legacy remains visible and includes Ball State University.
Advanced manufacturing, food processing, alternative energy and information technology are among the key industries in east central Indiana.
